What are Arepas made of?

The Arepas are made of corn, specifically pre-cooked cornmeal P.A.N. which revolutionized the making of Arepas by facilitating its preparation. After P.A.N.’s invention in 1960, peeling, grinding, cooking and milling corn were no longer needed to make the traditional Arepa.

What are Cachapas?

Yellow sweet corn version of a pancake. The usual way to make them is to grind the maize kernels, mixed with water and milk, giving the cachapa mixture just the right consistency, and then cook them on a flat griddle. At AMAIZE we use a mix of freshly grinded maize kernels and Yellow ‘harina P.A.N.’. The fresh kernels give a true authentic taste and texture while the harina P.A.N. provides the right consistency. Cachapas are relatively sweet and are usually served with ‘queso de mano’ or hand made cheese and topped with lashings of Nata. They are also served with different meat fillings, being pork the most popular in Venezuela.
